RHEUMATOLOGY

Fatima Memorial Hospital – Division of Rheumatology is headed by Prof. Nighat Mir Ahmed, an internat-ionally acclaimed American board certified rheumatologist who was the pioneer for starting free rheumatology clinics in Lahore in 1999. Later in 2001, she joined FMH as Faculty with the vision of establishing academic rheumato-logy unit for patients from all walks of live.
Since the FMH division of rheuma-tology has come a long way, it has a faculty comprising five consultants committed to patient care, edu-cation, training, and cli-nical research in the field of rheu-matology.

Dr. Sumaira Farman Raja, apart from being an adult rheum-atologist is also certified in pediatric rheumatology and has been instrumental in providing care to the children with arthritis.

Dr. Muhammad Ahmed Saeed, is the first graduate of FCPS program of the department, working as Associate Professor. He has special interest in Lupus and Inflammatory Arthritis.Dr. Saira Elaine Anwar Khan; apart from patient clinical care, is also in the process of developing MSK USG clinic. The faculty has been recognized nat-ionally as well as internationally on different forums for its contribution for establishing the specialty in this part of world. Despite the overwhelming clinical load, faculty members and fellows are actively involved in research and possess several publications to their credit. They have also pre-sented several abstracts in international meetings. The depar-tment of rheumatology is recognized by CPSP for FCPS in Rheumatology since 2009.

The department has so far trained 13 rheumatologists, and 5 fellows who are currently under training, contributing to around half of the present strength of rheumatologists in the province.

FMH division of rheumatology regularly organizes CME activities for physicians as well as public awareness program at different forums to uplift care of patients suffering from disabling rheumatic diseases.

The faculty has established arthritis care foundation, a charity that works for the welfare of indigent patients with arthritis. It also supports the FMH department of rheumatology through scholarships for fellows in training.

  • Soft Tissue Rheumatism
  • Osteoarthritis and Osteoporosis.
  • Procedures like Intra-Auricular and Soft Tissue injections are done in outpatient clinics, apart from this, there are dedicated infusion rooms for biologics and other infusions
