Background
The need to conduct ethical research is at the heart of scholarship. On one hand, ethics enables researchers to be more cautious and vigilant of displeasing consequences of unethical choices in research and on the other hand, it helps them publish their work in high impact factor journals. Hence, ethics literacy is a win-win option for health professions educationists.
Workshop Details
Dr. Aisha Yazdanie being a renowned expert on Ethics with a doctorate in Research Ethics from Oxford was invited to conduct a workshop on “Research Ethics” for the faculty members of FMH College of Medicine and Dentistry on the 3rd of February 2020. The workshop was accredited by UHS for 3 CME hours for the participants and 6 CME hours for the facilitator. It was a three and a half hours activity, which was highly interactive.
Dr. Ayesha emphasized on the significance of ethics in research and linked it to a variety of cases. Philosophical foundations of research ethics were the highlight of the workshop as it gave participants deep understanding about a variety of approaches for ethical decision making with reference to research.
A souvenir and a certificate were presented to Dr. Aisha Yazdanie by the Dean, Prof. Rakhshanda Tayyab. Concluding remarks by the Dean further underscored the importance of being cognizant with ethics while conducting research.
