The facilities available are as following

Electroecephalography (EEG) is an electrophysiological monitoring method to record electrical activity of the brain as the electrical activity of heart is recorded by ECG. 
It is used to diagnose, classify and treat clinical and subclinical seizures. It also helps in assessing the brain activity in a comatose patient in whom the decision is to be made regarding brain death or withdrawal from the ventilator. Additionally it also assists in assessing patients with metabolic disorders like hypoglycemia and various infections of brain. 

Instructions for the patients:

  • Wash your hair the night before EEG with shampoo, and don’t put any products (like sprays, oil, gels) in your hair on the day of test. 
  • It can take up to 30 minutes to do a test. 
  •  If your are unable to keep the appointment, please inform at least a day before the test. 
  • The fee for the test can be reduced in case of deserving patient.

Electromyography(EMG) and Nerve conduction study(NCS) is an electrodiagnostic technique for evaluating and recording the electrical activity produced by skeletal muscles and nerves like the electrical activity of the heart is recorded by ECG. 

It is used in assessing peripheral neuropathy conduction study (NCS) is an electrodiagnostic technique for evaluating and recording the electrical activity produced by skeletal muscles and nerves like the electrical activity of the heart is recorded by ECG. 

Instructions for the patients: 

  • The patient should wear loose clothing so that the part of the body to be tested can easily be exposed. 
  • The patient should tell if there is any metallic object like bullets, mental plates or nails  in the body to avoid injury during the test 
  • An attendant is preferred to accompany the patient. 

Student and PG trainee teaching:

Medical students and Postgraduate trainees rotate regularly through the department of Neurology. They are exposed to a rich variety of patients admitted in the wards and various rooms of the hospital and also get a chance to benefit from the medical equipment available in the department that helps them to learn about diagnosis and treatment of various Neurological disorders.
