General Department Questions
When should I visit the Orthopedics Department?
Visit Orthopedics for bone or joint pain, fractures, sports injuries, arthritis, back problems, deformities, difficulty walking, ligament injuries, or any injury affecting movement and daily activity.
What happens during my first appointment?
The consultant will review your symptoms, medical history and previous reports, examine the affected area, and advise investigations such as X-ray, MRI, CT scan or lab tests if required. A treatment plan may include medicines, immobilization, physiotherapy, injection, a procedure or surgery depending on the condition.
What tests or reports should I bring?
Bring previous X-rays, MRI / CT scans, ultrasound reports, lab reports, prescriptions, discharge summaries, and details of previous surgeries or implants.
Do I need a referral?
A referral is helpful but not always required for OPD. Emergency fracture or trauma patients can visit FMH Emergency directly.

Does FMH offer joint replacement surgery?
Yes. Department-level services include knee, hip and shoulder replacement where clinically indicated. The final recommendation is made after consultant evaluation, imaging and pre-operative assessment.
What is arthroscopic surgery?
Arthroscopy is a keyhole procedure in which a small camera and instruments are used to diagnose and treat selected joint problems. It may help reduce hospital stay and support quicker recovery in suitable cases.
Is pediatric orthopedic care available?
Yes. Children’s fractures and selected congenital, developmental and neuropathic deformities are managed through emergency, urgent and planned care pathways.
