
PSYCHIATRY
Department of Psychiatry & Behavioural Sciences provides facility for the treatment of various Psychiatric and Psychological Disorders. At Fatima Memorial Hospital, we provide individualized and compassionate care in a warm and supportive atmosphere. The professional and multidisciplinary team assesses each patient’s medical and psychiatric status, develop diagnosis and works with the patient and family to design an effective plan of treatment.
Adult Psychiatric Services
Adult psychiatric services are aimed primarily at people with serious mental illness who have associated significant levels of disturbance and psychosocial disability due to their illness or disorder.
We see patients suffering from:
- Bipolar Affective Disorder
- Schizophrenia
- Anxiety (OCD, GAD, PTSD, Panic Disorder)
- Depressive Disorder
- Personality Disorders
- Drug & Alcohol related Disorders
- Somatoform Disorders
The Psychiatry & Behavioural Sciences Department at Fatima Memorial Hospital provides assessment and treatment for various mental health conditions. The department operates on an individualized and compassionate model of care, aiming to create a supportive environment that allows for healing and recovery.
Each patient is assessed from a multidisciplinary perspective through which their specific medical and mental health needs are identified; a diagnosis is formed; and a treatment plan is collaboratively developed.
Our department provides comprehensive mental health care, and thus our team consists of both psychiatrists, who prescribe and manage required medications, and clinical psychologists, who provide psychological therapies.
Adult Mental Health Services
Our Adult Mental Health Services primarily cater to people aged over 18 years, suffering from a mental health condition, and experiencing significant distress and psychosocial dysfunction as a result. Adult mental health conditions that we commonly work with are listed below:
- Mood disorders (Depression, Bipolar Disorder)
- Psychotic Disorders (Schizophrenia, Brief Psychotic Episode, Schizoaffective Disorder)
- Anxiety Disorders (Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder, Generalised Anxiety Disorder, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, Panic Disorder, Phobias)
- Personality Disorders
- Drug & Alcohol Related Disorders
- Somatoform Disorders
- Neurocognitive Disorders (Dementias)
- Sleep Disorders (Insomnia, Narcolepsy)
Outpatient Clinic
Our outpatient clinic is available Monday to Saturday between 9am and 2pm, allowing for structured weekly or bi-weekly therapy sessions without disruption to our patient’s daily lives and work schedules. The outpatient clinical services include assessment, diagnosis, and treatment (psychiatric medications and psychological therapies). Each patient is reviewed by a registrar/medical officer, a consultant psychiatrist and a consultant clinical psychologist for thorough assessment and management.
Inpatient Program
We also offer inpatient services as an acute, short-term program for adults with mental health conditions who require a safe, structured and therapeutic environment 24 hours a day. Upon admission, patients are able to access full medical services as well as psychiatric services.
Psychological Services
Our department has 3 clinical psychologists available for psychological therapy sessions. Sessions are available in the outpatient clinic and privately, as per a patient’s needs. Sessions usually take place once a week or once in two weeks. The role of the clinical psychologist is to ‘help the patient help themselves’ through various therapeutic strategies. The main modalities of therapy available are:
